ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is expected to approve a Rs2 per unit reduction in electricity tariff under fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for January 2025. The Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G) has submitted a petition proposing a refund of Rs2.32 per unit to consumers.
CPPA-G Seeks Approval for Tariff Reduction
The CPPA-G, representing Ex-Wapda Distribution Companies (XWDiscos), filed an application with NEPRA, requesting the reduction. The adjustment reflects the difference between reference fuel charges and the actual fuel cost in January 2025.
A public hearing on the petition is scheduled for February 27, where NEPRA will review the request and make a final decision.
Electricity Production and Cost Breakdown
According to the petition, a total of 7.816 billion units of electricity were produced in January. The reference fuel charge billed to consumers was Rs13.1 per unit, while the actual cost was Rs10.78 per unit. The difference of Rs2.32 per unit is now proposed for refund.
The electricity generation mix in January was as follows:
- Hydel power: 10.63%
- Local coal: 15.56%
- Imported coal: 8.53%
- Furnace oil: 1.53%
- Local gas: 13.11%
- Imported LNG: 18.92%
- Nuclear power: 26.61%
