Pakistan and Bahrain’s military leaders have discussed strengthening bilateral military cooperation and addressing regional security concerns during a meeting at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi. The discussions took place on February 20, 2025, between General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), and Lt. Gen. Shaikh Abdulaziz Saud Mubarak Al-Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Bahrain National Guard.

Enhancing Military Collaboration

The Bahraini chief praised Pakistan’s armed forces for their professionalism and sacrifices in combating terrorism, according to a statement from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Both leaders explored ways to deepen existing military partnerships. They emphasized the need to broaden the scope of their joint military engagements to enhance operational efficiency and shared capabilities.

Regional Security Concerns

The evolving regional security environment was a significant focus of the discussions. Both sides exchanged views on emerging threats and challenges in the region, agreeing to enhance information-sharing and strategic coordination. This commitment reflects the growing importance of regional cooperation in addressing cross-border issues, such as terrorism and illegal trafficking.

Past Joint Military Exercises

The meeting follows last month’s joint military exercise, Al-BADAR, held in northwest Pakistan. This two-week exercise demonstrated the growing synergy between the two countries’ armed forces. It also highlighted their shared commitment to improving combat readiness and operational coordination through joint training programs.

Broader Diplomatic Engagements

The military meeting occurred days after an 11-member Bahraini parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al-Musalam, visited Pakistan. During this visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited Bahraini investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan. He also emphasized the need to increase bilateral trade to strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

Strategic Importance of Pakistan-Bahrain Relations

Pakistan enjoys close ties with Bahrain and other Middle Eastern nations. These relationships are based on mutual respect, shared security interests, and ongoing military collaborations. Enhancing defense ties with Bahrain is a strategic priority for Pakistan, which continues to seek regional partnerships to address common challenges.

Future Prospects

With ongoing efforts to expand their cooperation, Pakistan and Bahrain are expected to work on additional initiatives, including more joint exercises and enhanced military exchanges. This partnership will further reinforce regional stability and deepen trust between the two countries.
