
The Sindh government has announced revised school timings for the holy month of Ramadan. The changes apply to both single and double-shift schools across the province.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh Education Department on Thursday, primary schools with double shifts will operate as follows:
First shift: 7:30 am to 11:30 am and Second shift: 11:45 am to 2:45 pm
For single-shift primary schools, the new timing will be 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.
On Fridays, timings will be adjusted further:
- Double-shift schools:
- First shift: 7:30 am to 10:30 am
- Second shift: 11:45 am to 1:15 pm
- Single-shift schools: 8:00 am to 11:30 am
For secondary, higher secondary, and elementary schools, the revised timings are:
- Double-shift schools:
- First shift: 7:30 am to 11:30 am
- Second shift: 11:45 am to 2:45 pm
- Single-shift schools: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm
On Fridays, these schools will follow:
Double-shift schools:

- First shift: until 10:30 am
- Second shift: until 1:15 pm
- Single-shift schools: until 11:30 am
These adjustments were made under the directives of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to accommodate fasting students and staff.

Punjab’s Proposal for Reduced School Hours
Meanwhile, in Punjab, the School Education Department has proposed reducing school hours by two hours during Ramadan.
A recent meeting in Lahore discussed the proposal. The suggested new timings are:
- Girls’ schools: 7:30 am to 12:15 pm
- Boys’ schools: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm
Currently, schools in Punjab operate until 2:30 pm for boys and 2:45 pm for girls.
A final decision on Punjab’s revised school timings will be taken after discussions with education authorities. The new schedule is expected to be implemented from the first day of Ramadan.
