Security Forces Respond to Bannu Cantonment Attack, Neutralize 16 Terrorists

Security forces successfully countered a terrorist attack on the Bannu Cantonment in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, eliminating 16 militants. The military’s media wing confirmed the operation on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack took place on Tuesday evening. Militants attempted to breach the high-security zone using two explosives-laden vehicles.

Security Forces Take Swift Action

The ISPR reported, “Troops engaged the attackers with precision, neutralizing all 16 terrorists, including four suicide bombers.”

In the intense exchange of fire, five soldiers lost their lives while defending the cantonment.

Civilian Casualties and Damage

The powerful explosions damaged the perimeter wall, causing structural damage to nearby buildings. A mosque and a residential area sustained severe impact. As a result, 13 civilians lost their lives, and 32 others sustained injuries.

Authorities are providing medical assistance to the injured, and efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage.

Investigation and Foreign Involvement

The ISPR identified the attackers as belonging to banned militant groups. It further stated that intelligence reports confirmed the involvement of foreign nationals in the attack.

According to the ISPR, “The attack was planned and directed by elements operating from across the border.”

The government urged neighboring authorities to take decisive steps to prevent such cross-border incidents.

A military statement emphasized, “Pakistan expects full cooperation in ensuring that its territory remains safe from external threats.”

Commitment to Counterterrorism

Officials reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong resolve to eliminate terrorism and protect its citizens. Security forces remain vigilant and committed to maintaining national stability.

Leaders Condemn the Attack

President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the assault. He commended the security forces for their swift and effective response. “Such an attack during the holy month of Ramazan is a deplorable act,” he stated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also lauded the armed forces. “The perpetrators of this attack targeted innocent civilians. They do not deserve any mercy,” he emphasized.

Ongoing Security Measures

Authorities are increasing security in key areas to prevent future incidents. Investigations are ongoing to identify any further threats. Pakistan remains steadfast in its commitment to peace and security.
