Babar Azam’s Father Defends Son After T20I Squad Exclusion

Babar Azam’s exclusion from Pakistan’s T20I squad has sparked heated debates, with his father, Azam Siddique, strongly defending him against critics. Siddique addressed the backlash on social media, sending a clear message to those questioning Babar’s form and selection.

Babar Dropped Despite Strong Credentials

The former captain’s omission from the five-match T20I series against New Zealand surprised many. Babar, 30, has been under scrutiny following Pakistan’s disappointing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. His recent form has raised concerns, but he was still included in the ICC’s T20I Team of the Year.

Despite this recognition, selectors decided to drop him, a move that did not sit well with his father. Siddique took to Instagram, expressing confidence in Babar’s comeback through performances in the National T20 Cup and the upcoming PSL.

“The boss is always right. Despite making the ICC’s T20 Team of the Year, he was dropped. It’s fine; he will perform in domestic cricket and PSL. Insha Allah, he will make a strong return.”

Strong Words for Former Cricketers

Siddique did not hold back when addressing former players who have been vocal about Babar’s struggles. He urged them to be careful with their words, implying that harsh criticism could receive an equally strong response.

“To the great former cricketers, I humbly request you to be mindful of your words. If someone responds, you might not be able to handle it. You are part of the past, and there is no way back for you.”

He also advised fans to look into the playing records of those criticizing Babar before taking their opinions seriously.

“Before blindly believing those who constantly shout and create chaos, just visit the PCB’s website and check their stats. The wise ones will understand.”

Defending His Role in Babar’s Career

Siddique also addressed those who believe he speaks too much about his son’s career. He emphasized that his role in Babar’s journey goes beyond being just a father.

“For those who say, ‘his father talks too much,’ let me make it clear—I was his first and only coach, spokesperson, mentor, and above all, his father.”

Babar’s Struggles and Road to Redemption

While his father remains confident, Babar’s recent form has been a concern. He has failed to score big since his 151-run innings against Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023. With Pakistan looking to revamp its T20 setup, selectors opted for new combinations, leaving out the star batter.

However, Babar has an opportunity to silence critics with strong performances in domestic tournaments. If he delivers, his return to the national squad will be inevitable.

With the T20 World Cup approaching, Pakistan will need its best players in form. Whether Babar can reclaim his spot remains to be seen, but his father is certain that this setback is only temporary.
