A mob lynching in Karachi’s Quaidabad area followed the murder of a trader by an armed robber. The shocking incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon when a lone assailant attempted to rob a beverage firm dealer, resulting in violence and the deaths of both the trader and the suspect.
Trader Killed During Robbery
According to DIG-East Usman Ghani, the armed suspect stormed into the office, held people at gunpoint, and demanded valuables. However, when the victims resisted, the robber opened fire, fatally shooting 35-year-old shop owner Babar Gul. The trader succumbed to a chest wound, dying on the spot.
Mob Takes Matters Into Their Own Hands
As the robber tried to flee, bystanders overpowered him and delivered a brutal beating. The severely injured suspect was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors pronounced him dead.
However, conflicting reports suggest he was still alive upon arrival. Some witnesses claim that fearing further violence, rescue volunteers moved the body to a different location before returning it for medico-legal procedures.

Authorities Condemn Vigilante Justice
The incident has sparked a strong response from law enforcement. DIG Ghani warned that the police will not tolerate vigilante justice and vowed legal action against those involved in the lynching.
He confirmed that a criminal case would be registered against all individuals responsible for the suspect’s death. The police have already begun filing FIRs in similar cases where mobs set vehicles ablaze after fatal accidents.
Investigation and Legal Consequences
Authorities remain unclear on whether the robber was alive when taken from the hospital. DIG-South Syed Asad Raza stated that rescue workers removed the body to prevent it from being mutilated by an angry crowd.
Meanwhile, police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed reported that the trader’s relatives took his body without permitting a post-mortem.
With the rising incidents of street crime and increasing public frustration, Karachi has witnessed multiple instances of mob violence. However, officials have reiterated that justice must be served through legal channels, not street executions.
This case now raises crucial questions about crime control, public safety, and the dangers of vigilante actions. The police have promised swift action against those responsible, but the cycle of crime and retribution continues to haunt the city.
