Inzamam Fires Back at Gavaskar Over ‘B Team’ Remark

Share the latest news updates

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq strongly reacted to Sunil Gavaskar’s recent remarks, where the Indian cricket legend claimed that even India’s B team could defeat Pakistan. Inzamam, visibly upset, reminded Gavaskar of past encounters and accused him of undermining Pakistan’s cricketing history.

‘He Fled Sharjah to Avoid Pakistan’ – Inzamam’s Response

After India’s six-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, Gavaskar highlighted the growing gap between the two teams. He remarked that Pakistan is struggling to compete even against India’s second-string squad. This statement did not sit well with Inzamam, who launched a sharp counterattack.

“India played well and won, but Gavaskar must check the stats before making such statements. He once fled Sharjah to avoid playing against Pakistan,” Inzamam said on a local news channel.

‘Respect History Before Making Claims’

Inzamam, a respected cricketing figure, emphasized that while Gavaskar is a senior cricketer and deserves respect, his comments crossed the line. He criticized the Indian legend for making statements that demean his own legacy.

“You can praise your team all you want, but speaking about another country in this manner is inappropriate. Pakistan has a rich cricketing history, and one match does not define a team,” Inzamam added.

He also urged Gavaskar to control his words, reminding him that such comments can tarnish his respected image in the cricketing world.

Gavaskar’s Controversial Statement

Gavaskar’s remarks came after India’s dominant performance against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, where they extended their winning streak over their rivals to six matches.

“I think a B team from India can certainly beat Pakistan. A C team? I’m not too sure, but the B team will be very hard to beat in their current form,” Gavaskar stated.

His words sparked strong reactions, with former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie also dismissing them as “nonsense.”

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy Struggles

The 2025 Champions Trophy was historic, marking the first ICC event in Pakistan after 29 years. However, the tournament was disappointing for the home side.

Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals, losing to New Zealand and India before their match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was washed out. Their only home game was against New Zealand in Lahore on February 19.

Despite their struggles, Pakistan’s cricketing legacy remains significant. Inzamam’s response reflects the frustration of fans and former players who feel their team deserves more respect on the global stage.
