President Calls for Salary Hikes and Tax Cuts in Upcoming Budget

President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the government to increase salaries and pensions, reduce income taxes, and prioritize job creation in the upcoming budget. Speaking at the joint session of Parliament on Monday, he highlighted the economic hardships faced by workers and salaried individuals, emphasizing the need for immediate relief measures.

In his annual address marking the start of the new parliamentary year, Zardari stressed that inflation, high energy costs, and rising prices of essential goods have placed an immense financial burden on citizens. He called on lawmakers to ensure that the next budget addresses these pressing issues by focusing on wage increases, lower taxation, and affordable energy prices.

Relief Measures for Salaried Classes

Zardari insisted that the government must take concrete steps to support salaried individuals and retirees. He proposed significant salary and pension hikes to help citizens cope with the rising cost of living. Additionally, he urged policymakers to reduce income taxes on working professionals, arguing that lower taxation would increase disposable income and stimulate economic activity.

“Ordinary citizens, especially salaried workers, are struggling to make ends meet. We must ensure that the upcoming budget brings them real relief,” he stated.

Job Creation Over Downsizing

The president strongly opposed downsizing and job cuts, calling instead for new employment opportunities. He emphasized that investing in workforce productivity would benefit the economy far more than reducing jobs.

“We should focus on creating employment rather than cutting jobs. Utilizing our trained manpower productively will strengthen the economy and improve living standards,” Zardari remarked.

His comments come amid concerns over corporate layoffs and government austerity measures, which have led to job losses in various sectors. Zardari’s proposal aims to counter these trends by promoting job growth and economic stability.

Inclusive Development and Provincial Equality

Beyond economic relief, Zardari emphasized the importance of inclusive and balanced development across Pakistan. He urged the federal government to prioritize neglected regions, ensuring that no province, district, or village is left behind in national progress.

He called for greater investment in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, particularly in underdeveloped areas. Addressing these regions’ needs, he argued, would reduce economic disparity and foster national unity.

“The ignored and neglected areas need urgent attention. The government must invest in their infrastructure and economic opportunities to eliminate their sense of deprivation,” he stated.

Shaping the Economic Future

As the first civilian president to address Parliament for the eighth time, Zardari’s speech set the tone for Pakistan’s economic agenda in the coming months. His call for salary hikes, tax cuts, and job creation reflects growing public concerns about inflation and financial instability.

With the budget approaching, all eyes are on the government’s response to these proposals. The coming weeks will determine whether the economic policies align with the president’s vision for a more equitable and prosperous Pakistan.
