Karachi: Visa (NYSE: V), a global leader in digital payments, has announced that Visa cardholders in Pakistan can now add their cards to Google Wallet. The announcement was made at a market-wide event hosted by Visa, attended by senior members of Pakistan’s financial industry.

Starting today, Visa cardholders from HBL, Bank Alfalah, UBL, and Meezan Bank can link their Visa cards to Google Wallet. This feature will enable them to make payments on Android and Wear OS devices wherever contactless payments are accepted.

JS Bank, Allied Bank, Zindigi, and Easypaisa will also support this feature soon. This integration meets the rising demand for digital payments in Pakistan, making transactions easier for locals and tourists.

Security Features of Google Wallet

Security remains a top priority for digital payments. Google Wallet uses tokenization, a technology that replaces sensitive card details, such as the 16-digit primary account number (PAN), with a secure token. This process reduces fraud and improves card authorization rates.

Visa’s Commitment to Digital Growth

Umar Khan, Country Manager for Visa in Pakistan and Afghanistan, highlighted the impact of this initiative.

“We are excited to enhance Pakistan’s digital payment ecosystem through this partnership with Google. Digital transactions now account for 84% of total retail payments in Pakistan, and the adoption of Google Wallet will further support this growth,” he said.

He also emphasized that Pakistanis can use Google Wallet internationally, ensuring a seamless and secure experience worldwide.

Google’s Vision for Pakistan

Farhan Qureshi, Country Director for Google Pakistan, stressed the importance of digital payments in the country’s evolving economy.

“Pakistan’s digital payments landscape is growing fast. Google Wallet provides a secure and seamless way for people to pay in stores, shop online, and access boarding passes when they travel,” he said.
