The Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu has directed authorities to prepare for negotiations on a ceasefire proposal. The proposal was suggested by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff. The state broadcaster of Israel KAN reported this development, citing Al Jazeera.
Netanyahu issued these instructions after meeting a delegation that had just returned from Qatar. According to KAN, Witkoff’s proposal includes a 60-day ceasefire extension in exchange for the release of ten captives.
Iran Rejects U.S. Pressure
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, dismissed Washington’s calls to halt support for Yemen’s Houthi forces. U.S. President Donald Trump had urged Tehran to withdraw its backing.
“The United States government has no authority or business dictating Iranian foreign policy,” Araghchi stated on X. He urged the U.S. to stop what he called the “killing of Yemeni people.”
U.S. Launches Strikes on Houthis

President Trump ordered large-scale military strikes against Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi forces. The attacks came in response to Houthi assaults on Red Sea shipping. At least 24 people were killed in the initial strikes.
Trump also issued a stern warning to Iran. He said that if Tehran threatened the U.S., America would hold it “fully accountable.”

“These strikes mark the biggest U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office in January,” an official stated. The U.S. has also increased sanctions on Iran, aiming to pressure Tehran into nuclear negotiations.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to warn the Houthis. “To all Houthi terrorists, YOUR TIME IS UP, AND YOUR ATTACKS MUST STOP, STARTING TODAY. IF THEY DON’T, HELL WILL RAIN DOWN UPON YOU LIKE NOTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN BEFORE!” he posted.
The situation in the region remains tense as diplomatic and military actions unfold.
