The National Security Committee (NSC) reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to eliminating terrorism and emphasized a unified political and strategic approach to counter the growing threat. In a high-level meeting held in Parliament, leaders from across the country reviewed the security situation and called for immediate implementation of anti-terror strategies.
High-Level Security Meeting Reviews Counterterrorism Measures
An in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) took place on Tuesday, lasting over six hours. The meeting brought together Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Army Chief General Asim Munir, and other key military and political figures.
Chief ministers from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated, along with provincial governors and Inspectors General of Police (IGPs). However, BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal was invited but did not attend. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) initially agreed to join but later withdrew, making its participation conditional on a meeting with the party’s founder.

Strong Condemnation of Terrorism and Support for Security Forces
The committee strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks and expressed solidarity with the victims. It praised the bravery of security forces and law enforcement agencies, recognizing their sacrifices in the fight against terrorism.
Pakistan’s leadership reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy for terrorist networks and emphasized the urgent implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) and Azm-e-Istahkam strategy. These initiatives aim to dismantle terrorist infrastructure, disrupt logistical support, and eliminate links between terrorism and organized crime.
Curbing the Digital Threat of Terrorism
A key concern raised during the meeting was the increasing use of social media platforms by terrorist groups. Militants are exploiting digital spaces for propaganda, recruitment, and attack coordination. The committee stressed the need for stronger measures to counter online extremist content and disrupt these digital networks.
Unwavering Support for Armed Forces and Law Enforcement
The NSC reaffirmed its full backing for the armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies. Leaders emphasized that the entire nation stands united with security forces in their mission to eliminate terrorism.
The committee also issued a clear warning that no individual, group, or institution aiding hostile forces will be allowed to destabilize Pakistan. It pledged strict action against internal and external threats to national security.
Response to the Balochistan Train Attack
The meeting followed the recent terrorist attack by the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Militants targeted train tracks in Bolan district and held over 440 passengers hostage in a day-long standoff.
Security forces launched a successful operation, rescuing the hostages and killing 33 attackers. However, the militants had already martyred 26 passengers, including security personnel. Four additional security officers lost their lives during the rescue mission.
Ongoing Efforts for National Security
Despite the absence of some opposition members, the committee stressed that national security discussions would continue. The fight against terrorism requires unity, strategic planning, and swift action, and Pakistan remains committed to ensuring peace and stability.
