Renowned Pakistani actor Danish Taimoor has addressed the backlash he faced after his comments on polygamy during a Ramadan TV transmission.

The controversy erupted when Taimoor, while discussing personal matters, remarked that men are permitted to marry four times.

Taimoor’s Statement and Public Reaction

“The permission for four marriages has been granted, but I am not doing it yet—that’s a different story,” he said with his wife, Ayeza Khan, present in the audience.

He added, “I say this in front of her [Ayeza] and today in front of you all. I am allowed to marry four times, but because of my love and respect for her, for now (filhal), I want to spend my life with her.”

However, his use of the word filhal (for now) sparked outrage, with many viewers interpreting it as a problematic choice of words.

Actor Issues Clarification and Apology

Following heavy criticism, Taimoor took to Instagram to address the controversy and reassure fans that his statement was misinterpreted.

“I know many of you are upset with me. Some people believe I disrespected my wife, but that was never my intention,” he clarified.

He explained that filhal is a word he commonly uses in daily life and that he did not mean to imply uncertainty about his commitment to Ayeza.

“Maybe I shouldn’t have used that word, or maybe it was a slip of the tongue. But I want to stress that I deeply love and respect Ayeza,” he said.

“I Wholeheartedly Apologize”

Taimoor further expressed regret if his words hurt anyone.

“If anyone felt offended, I wholeheartedly apologize. I have been in the industry for 18 years without controversy, and I want to keep it that way.”

He assured fans that his marriage remains strong. “Ayeza and I are very happy together. Please keep us in your prayers, and stay happy in your own lives.”
