In a horrifying case of domestic violence, a man in Karachi set his wife on fire after she confronted him about his extramarital affairs. The victim, Rabia, suffered severe burns after her husband, Waqas, tortured and doused her in petrol before setting her ablaze. The incident occurred in Korangi Mehran Town, where the couple had been living for two years.
A Marriage Marked by Abuse
Rabia married Waqas out of her own choice, hoping for a happy life. However, from the beginning, her husband’s behavior was abusive. He frequently beat and tortured her, ignoring her pleas for respect and loyalty. Despite enduring repeated violence, Rabia stayed in the marriage, trying to salvage their relationship.
But Waqas continued his affairs with other women. On March 14, Rabia finally confronted him when he failed to return home on time. Frustrated, she called a number linked to a woman named Amina. Waqas answered and, instead of explaining himself, launched into a verbal attack on his wife.

Brutal Attack in the Middle of the Night
Waqas came home that night around 11:45 PM, seething with rage. Without hesitation, he tortured Rabia, then poured petrol on her and set her on fire. The attack left her with 40% burns, and she was rushed to the burn ward at Civil Hospital for treatment.
Despite her severe condition, Rabia gave a statement to the police from her deathbed, detailing the horrific assault.
Police Take Action
The Korangi Industrial Area police registered the case on March 16, two days after the attack. The case was filed under attempted murder charges. Soon after, the investigation police launched a manhunt and arrested Waqas in Azeem Pura during an early morning operation on Tuesday.
Family Seeks Justice
Rabia’s brother, Muhammad Jamal, revealed that Waqas had threatened the family if they pursued legal action. Despite these threats, Jamal remains determined to seek justice for his sister.
This tragic case highlights the urgent need to address domestic violence and ensure that victims receive timely protection and justice. Rabia’s family now awaits the legal proceedings, hoping for a strict punishment for Waqas.
