Share the latest news updates

In a major development, the Karachi Police arrested Kamran Asghar Qureshi for his involvement in a drug trafficking case. Acting on a tip-off, the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) raided a bungalow in Defence Phase 5, Khayaban-e-Momin, and took him into custody.

Drugs and Illegal Weapons Seized

During the operation, police recovered 200 grams of crystal meth (ice), a 9mm pistol, two magazines, and 10 rounds of ammunition.

Connection to a High-Profile Murder Case

Kamran Qureshi’s arrest comes in the wake of an ongoing investigation into the murder of Mustafa Amir, a 23-year-old who went missing from Karachi’s DHA on January 6, 2023. His body was discovered 39 days later in Balochistan, confirming foul play.

Investigations revealed that Armaghan Qureshi, Mustafa’s acquaintance and Kamran’s son, played a central role in the crime. Armaghan was arrested on February 8 after a four-hour standoff with the police, during which he fired at officers, injuring a DSP and a constable.

Murder Linked to Drug Trade

Authorities discovered that both Mustafa and Armaghan were involved in drug-related activities, particularly the cannabis trade. Armaghan, a known drug user, had a history of criminal activity, including a 2019 case related to drug importation.

The conflict between Mustafa and Armaghan turned violent when Armaghan invited Mustafa to his bungalow, allegedly to use drugs together. However, the situation escalated, leading to Mustafa being beaten with an iron rod, bound, and dragged down the stairs.

Later, Armaghan, with the help of an accomplice, Shiraz, disposed of Mustafa’s body by setting it on fire in Hub. He also attempted to cover up the crime, instructing his employees to clean the bloodstains and taking Mustafa’s belongings, including his mobile phone.

Mother’s Allegations Against Kamran Qureshi

Mustafa Amir’s mother, Wajiha Amir, made serious allegations against Kamran Qureshi. She claimed that Armaghan informed his father about the murder, but instead of reporting it, Kamran advised his son to flee. She demanded Kamran’s inclusion in the investigation, questioning why authorities had not acted sooner.

Law Enforcement Under Scrutiny

The case has also exposed concerns about law enforcement involvement. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nadeem of the Gizri police is under investigation for his suspicious communication with Armaghan during the probe. While Nadeem insisted his interactions were official, suspicions arose regarding possible obstruction of justice. As a result, three police officers were suspended for mishandling the case.

Legal Complications and Court Rulings

The Sindh High Court (SHC) ruled that certain decisions in the case, including Armaghan’s judicial remand and the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), were unlawful. This ruling has further complicated the legal proceedings.
