UK, France Call for UN Security Council Meeting on Gaza

The United Kingdom and France have urged the UN Security Council to hold an urgent meeting on Friday. They want to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and ensure the protection of aid workers. Al Jazeera reported this development, citing diplomatic sources.
The call for a meeting follows increasing violence in Gaza. Humanitarian groups have raised concerns about the safety of civilians and aid workers. The UN has repeatedly warned about worsening conditions in the besieged region.
US Strikes Houthi-Controlled Areas in Yemen
The US military carried out 17 airstrikes on Houthi-controlled regions in Yemen. The strikes targeted key locations in Sanaa, Saada, Hodeidah, and Al Jawf. Al Jazeera confirmed the attacks, citing military officials.
Houthi-affiliated media outlet al-Masirah reported that airstrikes hit residential areas in Sanaa’s Tahrir and Qiyada districts. Several Houthi leaders reportedly reside in these areas. The bombings caused significant damage but did not result in any reported casualties.
Additional airstrikes targeted Sanaa International Airport and several districts in Saada governorate. The US military also struck Luhayyah in Hodeidah and Humaydat in Al Jawf. Five airstrikes focused on the Asayed area in Kitaf district.
Despite the heavy bombing, no fatalities have been confirmed so far. The US has not issued a formal statement regarding the latest strikes.
Iran Responds to Trump’s Letter on Nuclear Deal
Iran has replied to a letter from former US President Donald Trump regarding a new nuclear deal. Iran’s state news agency IRNA confirmed the response.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that the Iranian government sent its response through Oman. He emphasized that Iran refuses to engage in direct negotiations under pressure. However, Tehran remains open to indirect discussions, Araqchi added.
Since returning to office, Trump has expressed interest in talks with Iran. At the same time, he has reinstated a “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran. The strategy includes economic sanctions and diplomatic isolation.
Experts believe Trump’s dual approach makes negotiations difficult. Iran has demanded that the US lift sanctions before considering any new agreement. Meanwhile, Washington insists Tehran must first commit to curbing its nuclear program.

Rising Tensions and Diplomatic Efforts
The UN Security Council meeting on Gaza will test international cooperation. The UK and France aim to push for stronger humanitarian protections. Aid organizations have warned of a worsening crisis in the region.
In Yemen, the US airstrikes signal ongoing military engagement in the conflict. The strikes targeted Houthi-controlled regions as part of Washington’s efforts to curb the group’s influence. The Houthis, backed by Iran, have been in conflict with a Saudi-led coalition for years.
The Iran-US nuclear talks remain uncertain. Iran demands relief from sanctions, while the US seeks stricter controls on Tehran’s nuclear activities. The coming weeks will determine whether diplomacy prevails or tensions escalate further.
International observers continue to monitor these developments closely. The outcomes of these discussions could shape geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.
