Carlos Alcaraz secured the Monte Carlo Masters 2025 title with a dominant comeback win against Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, sealing the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-0. The final, held in Monaco, marked the Spaniard’s sixth ATP Masters 1000 title and his first since Indian Wells in March 2024.
A Tough Start, A Strong Finish
Alcaraz, seeded second in the tournament, started the match under pressure. He lost the first set in 42 minutes, committing 14 unforced errors and struggling to find rhythm. Musetti, seeded 13th and playing his first Masters 1000 final, capitalized on the early errors and looked poised for a breakthrough victory.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second set. Alcaraz cleaned up his game, reducing mistakes and increasing aggression. He broke Musetti’s serve repeatedly and leveled the match with a 6-1 set win.
Injury Halts Musetti’s Challenge
Musetti’s campaign took a tragic turn early in the third set when he appeared to suffer a right leg injury. After dropping the first three games of the set, he requested a medical timeout. Despite treatment, his movement visibly worsened, and he could no longer compete at the same level. Alcaraz dominated the remainder of the set, winning six straight games to close out the match in under two hours.
“It’s not the way I wanted to win,” Alcaraz said after the match. “Lorenzo had a great week. It’s tough to see a player end a final like this. I hope his injury isn’t serious, and he can come back strong soon.”

Career Milestone for Alcaraz
With this victory, Alcaraz now holds 18 career titles, including four Grand Slams. He also rises to World No. 2 in the ATP rankings. This win is his third Masters 1000 title on clay, adding to his previous triumphs in Madrid in 2022 and 2023.
“I’m really proud of how I handled this week,” Alcaraz said. “It hasn’t been easy. There were a lot of tough matches and challenges, but I stayed focused. Winning Monte Carlo for the first time is special.”
Musetti’s Breakthrough Week
Despite the loss, Musetti’s performance throughout the tournament marked a career highlight. The 23-year-old defeated top-10 players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alex de Minaur to reach the final. Unfortunately, the physical toll of a long tournament run appeared to catch up with him at the worst possible moment.
The stats told the story. Alcaraz produced 30 winners compared to Musetti’s 10 and converted six of eight break point chances. He also saved seven of nine break points on his own serve.
Alcaraz now leads their head-to-head series 4-1.
Eyes on the Clay Season
As the clay court season heats up, Alcaraz’s Monte Carlo win puts him in strong form ahead of the French Open. For Musetti, all eyes will be on recovery. If he returns fit, his Monte Carlo performance proves he can compete at the top level.
This Masters final, despite its unfortunate ending, showcased two rising stars of men’s tennis—one lifting a trophy, and the other earning respect.
