China has urged India-Pakistan relations to remain peaceful after deadly violence erupted again in Kashmir. Following a brutal attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have escalated dangerously. China has now called on both sides to show restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue to prevent further destabilization.
China Urges Calm Amid Rising Tensions
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized the need for India and Pakistan to exercise caution. Speaking at a press briefing, he stressed the importance of meeting halfway and resolving disputes through dialogue. “We welcome all measures that can cool down the situation,” Jiakun added, underscoring Beijing’s concern for regional peace.
Fresh Exchange of Fire at the LoC
Tensions have spilled over onto the Line of Control (LoC), where India and Pakistan reportedly exchanged gunfire for the fourth consecutive night. The Indian army accused Pakistani posts of initiating “unprovoked” fire between April: 27 and 28. However, Islamabad has not yet confirmed these reports. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far.

Fallout from the Pahalgam Attack
The attack in Pahalgam, one of the deadliest in Kashmir since 2000, has worsened the already fragile situation. Although a group initially claimed responsibility, it later denied involvement. India, without presenting evidence, suggested cross-border links, while Pakistan firmly rejected the allegations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a neutral international investigation.
Diplomatic Retaliations Escalate
In response to the attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, a major water-sharing agreement that had survived decades of conflict. Pakistan, in turn, threatened to suspend the Simla Agreement and warned of closing its airspace to Indian flights. Pakistan’s National Security Committee accused India of using the Pahalgam incident for political gains.
Leaders Issue Strong Warnings
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to hunt down the perpetrators and punish them severely. Meanwhile, calls for military action against Pakistan are growing among Indian politicians. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif warned that any aggression could lead to an “all-out war,” but also expressed willingness to cooperate in an international probe.
Global Community Calls for Peace
The United Nations has urged both nations to show maximum restraint and seek peaceful solutions. Separately, former Pakistani foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that real efforts to fight terrorism must include dialogue, not further violence.
