Bajaur Blast Kills Assistant Commissioner, Four Others in Targeted Attack

A deadly Bajaur blast attack on Wednesday claimed five lives, including a senior government official, when a government vehicle was targeted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district. The explosion also left 11 others injured, sparking outrage and calls for justice across the country.

Targeted Strike on Government Convoy

The powerful explosion struck a government convoy on Nawagai Road in the Siddiqabad railway area of Khar tehsil. Bajaur District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique confirmed that the blast completely destroyed the vehicle. Those killed included Nawagai Assistant Commissioner Faisal Ismail, Tehsildar Abdul Wakil, Subedar Noor Hakim, and police constable Rashid.

Rising Terror Threat in KP

This attack comes amid a surge in terrorism across KP and Balochistan following the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) decision to end its ceasefire in November 2022. Pakistan now ranks second on the Global Terrorism Index 2025, underlining the growing security challenge.

Swift Response and Emergency Measures

Security forces sealed the area while rescue teams shifted the injured to Khar District Headquarters Hospital. KP Health Adviser Ihtisham Ali imposed an emergency in Bajaur hospitals and ensured that medical staff remained on high alert.

Nation Mourns the Loss

President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the victims’ families. Bilawal stated, “Terrorists are enemies of the nation and peace,” and reaffirmed national unity in the fight against terrorism.

The Bajaur blast underscores the continuing threat of militancy and the urgent need for enhanced security measures across the region.
