England Worry Over Bashir’s Finger Injury Ahead of Fourth Test

England’s cricket team is on edge after Shoaib Bashir’s injury forced him off the field during the third Test against India at Lord’s. The off-spinner hurt his left little finger while trying to catch a fierce drive from Ravindra Jadeja on Day 3.

Injury During a Crucial Spell

The ball struck Bashir’s hand hard, turning a potential caught-and-bowled into a painful blow. He immediately signaled for help and walked off. Joe Root stepped in to complete the over. The injury, believed to be a dislocation, left Bashir sitting with substitutes for the rest of the day.

Status Remains Uncertain

On Day 4, Bashir was seen bowling with heavy strapping on his fourth and fifth fingers during warm-ups. However, he did not bat in the third innings, and his fitness remains uncertain. England is unsure whether he will take the crease or play in the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

The England and Wales Cricket Board released a statement:
“Following his left little finger injury, Shoaib Bashir continues to be monitored and is expected to bowl in the fourth innings. A decision on his batting will be made in due course. His availability for the fourth Test will be assessed after this match.”

Bowling Impact Despite Average Stats

Although Bashir has claimed just nine wickets at an average of 59.44 in the series, he remains a key spinner. His dismissal of KL Rahul on Day 3 was timely. England, currently trailing in the five-match series, might need his spin skills in India’s final innings.

Replacements in Consideration

If Bashir cannot play in Manchester, England may turn to Liam Dawson, Jack Leach, or Rehan Ahmed as spin options. Coach Brendon McCullum confirmed Jacob Bethell is being viewed as a backup batter, not a spin alternative.

With a must-win scenario looming, England are hoping Bashir can recover in time to boost their bowling attack for the crucial games ahead.
