Malta’s tourism sector is undergoing a defining transformation, with quality tourism emerging as the central goal. Tourism in Malta hit a new high in 2024, generating €3.3 billion in revenue—a jump of €600 million from the previous year, reflecting a 23% growth. The momentum has continued into 2025. Between January and May alone, tourism expenditure rose by another 21.9%, adding €210 million to the economy. These results signal more than just recovery—they confirm Malta’s upward trajectory and resilience in the global tourism market.

Seasonal balance brings year-round impact

One of Malta’s key achievements lies in transforming its seasonal tourism model. While summer remains the peak travel period, the MTA has deliberately shifted focus toward winter growth. After reaching peak arrivals in summer 2023, the agency redirected resources to target the cooler months.

This strategy has paid off. Winter tourism in 2023–24 recorded growth between 20% and 30%, a pattern that has repeated in the most recent winter season. Today, Malta and Gozo enjoy the most balanced tourism calendar in the Mediterranean, drawing consistent visitor numbers all year round.

This transformation has been the result of calculated, strategic decisions. The MTA has optimized the flight network to ensure year-round connectivity. It has developed targeted tourism products and curated niche offerings, from adventure and history to conferences and luxury travel.
