Renowned Poet Amjad Islam Amjad Passes Away In Lahore

It is with sadness that the literary community announces the passing of Amjad Islam Amjad, a renowned playwright and icon, in Lahore. He was 78 years old and passed away due to a heart attack.

Amjad was not just a playwright but also a poet, educator, columnist, and literary critic who left a lasting impact on Pakistan’s cultural heritage through his groundbreaking works. His plays, such as Waris, Samandur, Dehleez, Din, Raat, Waqt, Fishaar, and Inkaar, are considered classics and have touched the hearts of audiences for generations.

In addition to authoring over seventy books, Amjad was also the subject of more than ten books written by renowned authors and critics from around the world. He received numerous awards and honors, including the Pride of Performance and Sitara-e-Imtiaz.

Amjad was also recognized internationally, receiving the Necip Fazil International Culture and Art Award from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Turkish leader referred to him as “one of the most important poets in modern Urdu literature.”

Amjad’s legacy lives on through his award-winning and soul-stirring compositions, including works such as Shifting Sands, Ham Us Kay Hain, Sahilon Ki Hawa, Phir Yun Huwa, Zara Phir Se Kehna, and Itne Khawb Kahan Rakhun Ga, among many others.
