Anushka Sharma reveals how Aditya Chopra asked her to keep her debut role in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi a secret from her parents.
Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma recently shared a little-known fact about her debut film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, during an episode of the docu-series, The Romantics. She revealed that director Aditya Chopra had asked her to keep her role in the film a secret from her parents initially.
Anushka recalled, “Everything was under wraps. Nobody knew about it and Adi didn’t want anybody to know that I was the lead actor. Adi literally said to me, ‘you can’t tell anybody. You cannot even tell your parent.’ I said, ‘Huh?”
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is considered one of the most iconic films of Indian cinema, featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. The film tells the story of Surrinder Sahni, a simple man who falls in love with Tani, and the two get married accidentally. Suri then tries to impress her after marriage by undergoing a complete makeover. The film delivers a simple message that being ordinary is not bad and is actually quite cool.
After taking a break from acting to start a family, Anushka Sharma is now making her comeback to the silver screen with a sports film named Chakda Xpress, which is based on the life of former Indian cricketer Jhulan Goswami. Produced by Anushka’s brother Karnesh Sharma, the film is set to release on Netflix soon, as per reports by NDTV.
Anushka Sharma had taken a break from acting after her last film, Zero, in 2018, to focus on her personal life. She and her husband, cricketer Virat Kohli, welcomed their daughter, Vamika, in January 2021.
During her hiatus from acting, Anushka and her brother Karnesh Sharma continued to work on their production house, Clean Slate Films, which has produced critically acclaimed films like NH10, Phillauri, and Pari.
In Chakda Xpress, Anushka plays the role of Jhulan Goswami, one of the most successful women’s cricketers in India. The film follows Jhulan’s journey from her childhood to her rise in the world of cricket and her contribution to the Indian women’s cricket team. Anushka has been actively promoting the film on her social media handles and has shared glimpses of her training sessions and the film’s behind-the-scenes footage.
