CJP urges Govt and PTI to resume talks

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial urged the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to resume talks during a hearing on Monday.

The CJP was presiding over a three-member bench, which included Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar.

The bench was hearing the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) plea to reconsider the April 4 order that had made the electoral body responsible for holding elections in Punjab on May 14.

On April 4, the same bench had declared the ECP’s decision to hold elections in Punjab on October 8 instead of April 30 as “unlawful,” instructing the electoral watchdog to conduct polls in Punjab on May 14.

However, instead of complying with the order, the election organising authority approached the top court to review its directives.
