Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended Independence Day greetings to the nation and announced plans for a significant reduction in electricity tariffs in the coming days. This move comes in response to widespread concerns about high electricity bills, which the Prime Minister acknowledged as one of the most pressing issues facing the country. He emphasized that lowering electricity costs is essential for the growth of Pakistan’s industry, agriculture, and exports.
Speaking at a ceremony celebrating Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, PM Shehbaz reassured the public that the government is working tirelessly to address the problem of inflated electricity bills. He promised that a major reduction in tariffs would be announced soon, bringing much-needed relief to the people.
The Prime Minister also urged the nation, particularly the youth, to support the government’s efforts to build a prosperous, stable, and peaceful Pakistan. He encouraged young people to focus on their education and skill development, warning them to avoid being influenced by negative forces that seek to undermine the country. He expressed concern that enemies of the state are using digital terrorism to disrupt Pakistan’s progress.
During his speech, PM Shehbaz paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the forefathers and countless unsung heroes of the Pakistan Movement. He highlighted that Pakistan was born out of the vision of Allama Iqbal and the determined leadership of Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Despite the challenges Pakistan has faced over the past 77 years, the Prime Minister noted that the resilience of the people has enabled the country to survive and move forward.
Reflecting on the nation’s current struggles, PM Shehbaz acknowledged that many people are worried about inflation, high electricity bills, unemployment, and other issues. He assured the public that he is committed to providing maximum relief and improving the quality of life for all Pakistanis.
The Prime Minister also honored individuals from various sectors, including sports, education, and health. He specifically recognized Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem, who attended the ceremony with his mother. PM Shehbaz vowed to continue working hard to achieve the vision of Pakistan’s founding leaders.
In addition to addressing the nation’s immediate concerns, PM Shehbaz had been expected to unveil a comprehensive economic reform plan. However, the announcement has been rescheduled for next week. A source from the Prime Minister’s Office indicated that the plan will focus on both micro and macro-economic measures aimed at improving the local economy. The plan is expected to include strategies for providing relief to the public and supporting the business and industrial sectors. It will also seek to attract both local and foreign investors.
During his speech, PM Shehbaz also condemned the ongoing violence against Palestinians, stating that the massacre of innocent civilians has overshadowed the joy of Independence Day celebrations. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister participated in a flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan Monument, where he laid a floral wreath to honor the country’s founding fathers and national heroes. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Chairman Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani.
PM Shehbaz also expressed his gratitude to UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his warm Independence Day greetings. He emphasized the strong bond between Pakistan and the UAE, expressing confidence that the two nations will continue to work together for mutual prosperity and success.
