A day after a devastating Balochistan attack claimed at least 50 lives, including 14 security personnel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for unwavering resolve and national unity. The prime minister’s remarks came during a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, where he emphasized the urgency of confronting terrorism with strength and determination.

Deadly Balochistan Attacks

On Sunday night, Balochistan was rocked by a coordinated assault by militants affiliated with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The attacks, which targeted both security forces and civilians, particularly those from Punjab, were marked by a spree of violence. Militants stormed police stations, detonated explosives on railway tracks, and set fire to nearly three dozen vehicles.

In Musakhail, a district near the Punjab border, militants carried out a particularly brutal attack, killing 23 people after checking their identity documents. The violence has left the province reeling, with widespread damage and loss of life.

Government Response and Calls for Unity

Addressing the federal cabinet, PM Shehbaz condemned the attacks as unacceptable and underscored the need for national unity. “There is no space for any kind of weakness,” he asserted, urging the country to identify its enemies and stand united against them. He emphasized that the focus should not be on the regional origins of the victims but on the broader issue of terrorism affecting all Pakistanis.

PM Shehbaz described the recent attacks as part of a troubling trend of terrorism in the country. “More than 50 Pakistanis have been martyred in recent incidents,” he said, highlighting the persistence of terrorist activities over the past few months. He stressed that the terrorists’ ultimate goal is to hinder Pakistan’s progress and create discord, particularly targeting projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Military Actions and Government Assurances

In response to the attacks, security forces have been actively engaged in operations to neutralize the threat. The armed forces’ media wing reported that 21 militants were killed in subsequent operations. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have vowed to intensify efforts to combat terrorism in the province.

PM Shehbaz assured that the government would support the security forces by providing necessary financial resources and reducing other expenditures. He stated that sacrifices made in the fight against terrorism would not be in vain and affirmed that the government remains committed to overcoming challenges.

Openness to Dialogue and Future Actions

While firmly rejecting any soft approach towards terrorists, PM Shehbaz offered a potential pathway for dialogue. He stated that the government remains open to talks with those in Balochistan who support Pakistan’s Constitution and flag. However, he made it clear that no negotiations would be entertained with individuals or groups posing as friends but working against the country’s interests.

The prime minister announced plans to visit Balochistan soon to assess the situation firsthand and decide on further actions. He emphasized the need for a decisive stance against terrorism and reassured the nation that the government would continue to prioritize the fight against extremism.

As Pakistan grapples with this latest surge of violence, the prime minister’s call for unity and resolve reflects the country’s determination to address terrorism head-on while striving for peace and stability.
