Ronaldo scored 140 goals in 183 appearances.

Cristiano Ronaldo received a special award at the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League draw ceremony in Monaco. The honor, presented by UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin, recognizes Ronaldo’s remarkable legacy in the world’s most prestigious football competition.

Ronaldo, the all-time leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, has left an indelible mark on European football. Over an 18-year career, he scored 140 goals in 183 appearances. His tally places him 11 goals ahead of Lionel Messi and 46 goals clear of Robert Lewandowski.

The special award was presented during the inaugural 2024/25 UEFA Champions League 36-team league phase draw ceremony at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Ronaldo’s achievements have made him a legend in the competition, and this award further cements his status.

Ronaldo’s journey in the Champions League began with Sporting Clube de Portugal, before moving on to Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. He has finished as the top scorer in seven different Champions League seasons, more than any other player. His first top scorer title came during Manchester United’s victorious 2007/08 campaign, where he netted eight goals. He then led the scoring charts again in 2017/18, with 15 goals in Real Madrid’s third consecutive title win.

One of Ronaldo’s most notable records is his 17 goals in the 2013/14 season, the most in a single Champions League campaign. His performance that year included a goal in the final against Atlético de Madrid, helping Real Madrid secure the title.

Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times. He first lifted the trophy with Manchester United in 2008 and then went on to win it four more times with Real Madrid. This achievement makes him the first player to win the competition five times since 1992. Additionally, Ronaldo is the only player to have scored in three different Champions League finals (2008, 2014, 2017).

Beyond the Champions League, Ronaldo’s accomplishments extend to all UEFA club competitions. He is the all-time leading scorer with 145 goals in 197 appearances. On the international stage, Ronaldo is the most prolific scorer in men’s football history, with 130 goals in 212 appearances for Portugal.
