KARACHI: The Sindh Police suspended two cops, including a female officer, for irresponsible behavior after their videos went viral online. Geo News reported the incident on Tuesday.
Lady Police Constable Maria Gill was suspended after her video, where she posed in uniform during duty hours, caught the attention of South Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Asad Raza. Gill was stationed at Gizri Police Station at the time of the video.
In a similar case, Constable Zeeshan faced suspension after a video he posted in 2023 resurfaced and went viral on social media. The video showed him posing with his pistol while in uniform. City Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Arif Aziz noticed the video and immediately ordered Zeeshan to report to the City SSP office. Zeeshan was serving at Baghdadi Police Station.
The City SSP stressed that no officer is allowed to display or play with weapons in videos, underlining the importance of maintaining professional conduct, especially while on duty.
The Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) expressed disappointment over the actions of the two constables. He reminded all officers that the police force is a professional institution and such irresponsible acts will not be tolerated. The IGP issued a stern warning that any police personnel caught posing with weapons or uploading videos online will face suspension and departmental action.
This incident comes in the wake of new government directives issued earlier that same day. The government barred all public servants from using social media without permission to prevent the unauthorized disclosure of official information. The Establishment Division issued an office memorandum enforcing these rules under the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules, 1964.
According to the new regulations, government employees are now legally required to obtain permission before using any social media applications. This move aims to protect the integrity of official information and maintain discipline among public servants.
