The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced it will not support Israel’s post-war plan for Gaza unless a Palestinian state is established. UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan posted on X, stating, “The UAE is not ready to support the day after the war in Gaza without the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

In May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed a post-war plan for Gaza. The plan promised prosperity for Palestinians, including investments in ports, solar energy, and electric car manufacturing. Netanyahu also mentioned using newly discovered gas fields in Gaza. The plan laid out three phases, extending from an unspecified “victory date” to 2035.

According to the Israeli roadmap, Palestinians would manage the plan under Israeli occupation, with oversight from several Arab countries. The countries listed include the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, and Morocco.

Abdullah bin Zayed strongly criticized Netanyahu’s plan. He said Netanyahu lacked the authority to make such decisions. Abdullah also emphasized that the UAE was not consulted about the plan. “The UAE refuses to be involved in any plan aimed at providing cover for the Israeli presence in the Gaza Strip,” said a statement from the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The UAE made it clear that it will not support any plan that solidifies Israel’s control over Gaza. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, “When a Palestinian government is formed, which meets the hopes and aspirations of the brotherly Palestinian people, the UAE will provide full support.” The ministry emphasized that this future government must be competent, independent, and focused on the needs of Palestinians.

In July, the UAE pushed for an international response to address Gaza’s humanitarian crisis. Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy called for a “temporary international mission” in Gaza. She said this mission must handle the humanitarian impact of the war and begin the process of rebuilding.

Reem Al Hashimy explained that this mission should also work toward Gaza’s reunification with the West Bank. She stressed that this reunification should happen under the Palestinian Authority’s rule. The UAE believes this is key to ending the humanitarian crisis and moving toward peace in the region.

The UAE continues to prioritize the creation of a Palestinian state as the solution to the conflict. The country insists that any lasting peace plan must include a pathway to statehood for Palestinians. Without this, the UAE will not engage in or support Israel’s efforts in Gaza.
