Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Premier League Clash at Anfield

Historically, Liverpool’s position in the top four poses a daunting challenge for Bournemouth.

Liverpool and Bournemouth will face off this Saturday at Anfield. Both teams are aiming to recover from narrow defeats in their last Premier League matches. Liverpool lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest, while Bournemouth fell 1-0 to Chelsea. Liverpool is fourth in the table, three points behind Manchester City. Bournemouth is 11th with only one win from four matches.

Historically, Bournemouth struggles against top-four teams. They have won just two of their 29 Premier League away games against such sides. Their wins came against Chelsea in 2018 and 2019. They’ve only won once in their last seven Premier League matches. However, they showed resilience by coming back to beat Everton 3-2 in their last away game.

Bournemouth may find some hope in Liverpool’s recent home form. The Reds have lost two of their last five games at Anfield. This contrasts with their earlier run, where they lost just once in 58 home matches. Liverpool will be eager to avoid consecutive home defeats, something they haven’t experienced since 2021. A recent 3-1 Champions League win over AC Milan will give them a confidence boost.

Under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool’s defense has been solid. They have conceded the fewest shots and goals in the Premier League. They also boast the lowest expected goals against and have faced the fewest shots on target. Bournemouth’s attacking stats show they could pose a threat, as only Brighton and Manchester City have had more shots this season.

Mohamed Salah is likely to be key for Liverpool. He has scored nine goals in nine Premier League games against Bournemouth. If he scores again, Bournemouth will become the fourth team he reaches double figures against, joining Manchester United, Arsenal, and West Ham.

Bournemouth will be without Tyler Adams and Dango Ouattara. However, Kepa Arrizabalaga could return in goal. Liverpool will miss Harvey Elliott, who is sidelined until late October.

Liverpool have dominated recent meetings with Bournemouth, winning nine of their last 10 Premier League clashes. The exception was Bournemouth’s 1-0 win in March 2023. Bournemouth have struggled at Anfield, losing nine of 10 visits. Their last point at Anfield came in a 2-2 draw in April 2017.

Liverpool are favorites to win, with a 69.7% chance of victory according to the Opta supercomputer. Bournemouth has a 13.4% chance of pulling off an upset, with a draw given a 16.9% likelihood.

Liverpool are expected to finish in the top four this season, with a 93.2% probability. Bournemouth is projected to finish mid-table, with a likely 12th-place finish and a 5.5% chance of relegation.
