Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has issued a clear warning. He stated that failing to uphold the constitution will lead to more instability and unrest in the country. Speaking at an event in Karachi on Sunday, he expressed serious concerns about the current political situation.
First, Rehman pointed to the recent elections, which he claimed were marred by fraud. Moreover, he labeled the current assembly as a product of establishment interference. This, he said, has fueled public mistrust. He emphasized that reforms are necessary. However, he cautioned that these reforms should not benefit specific political groups.
“When you propose a good idea, but people think it serves your political interests, how can the government regain credibility?” Rehman asked. Furthermore, he stressed that the public is now more aware of political changes. As a result, they cannot be fooled by political rhetoric.
Additionally, Rehman expressed concern over Pakistan’s ongoing political instability. He noted that this instability has impacted the country’s international standing. The global community, he explained, is hesitant to engage in business with Pakistan. According to him, political instability is the main reason for this hesitation. Consequently, even friendly nations are worried about how to assist Pakistan during this uncertain time.
“The world is watching,” Rehman remarked. He added that key allies and neighboring countries are also concerned about Pakistan’s economic situation. They are unsure how to offer help under such unstable conditions.
Lack of Political Stability
Rehman also highlighted another major issue. He pointed out that various institutions are interfering with each other’s affairs. According to him, no institution—whether it’s the constitution, parliament, or judiciary—feels secure. Each is focused on its own stability, he explained. As a result, the country cannot achieve political stability.
While he acknowledged that change is inevitable, Rehman stressed that these changes must not be driven by political interests. Instead, they should serve the entire nation. He urged institutions to operate within their defined boundaries. Furthermore, he called for the separation of powers among the parliament, judiciary, and military. These institutions, Rehman noted, should work independently but in harmony.

Rehman reiterated that the constitution is the key to uniting the country. In his words, it is the “social contract” that holds the nation together. He argued that following the constitution is essential for Pakistan’s future. Without this, he warned, the country will remain divided and unstable.
In conclusion, Rehman reinforced his vision for Pakistan. He wants to see a strong and empowered nation. This, he believes, is only possible if all institutions fulfill their responsibilities. Political manipulation, he warned, will only lead to more strife. Therefore, strict adherence to constitutional principles is the only way forward. Without it, Pakistan will continue to struggle on the world stage.
