The Sindh Government and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) have launched a citywide operation to reclaim public spaces. The operation aims to remove encroachments and restore access to essential areas across the city. This decision follows a meeting between Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah. During the meeting, they agreed to empower Assistant Commissioners to take stronger actions against illegal structures.

As part of this initiative, the Sindh Government is prioritizing the removal of encroachments around hospitals. This is to ensure that healthcare facilities remain easily accessible. Mayor Wahab emphasized the government’s determination, stating, “Strong actions will be taken to eliminate encroachments across the city.”

Chief Secretary Shah echoed this commitment. He stated that clearing the city of encroachments is part of broader urban management reforms. “Encroachment will be eliminated from the city,” he said. Shah highlighted that this effort is essential for restoring Karachi’s infrastructure and public spaces.

In addition to the anti-encroachment drive, the Sindh Government has approved significant funding to repair the city’s damaged roads. The Sindh Chief Minister has allocated Rs. 1.5 billion for this purpose. Mayor Wahab explained that many roads have been affected by encroachments, and the funds will be used to improve them.

Moreover, the city’s drainage system will also undergo significant improvements. Mayor Wahab mentioned that this is part of a broader urban renewal plan. The goal is to modernize Karachi’s infrastructure and address long-standing issues that have affected public services.

Focus on Public Transport and Employee Welfare

Meanwhile, the Sindh Government is also working to improve Karachi’s public transport system. Chief Secretary Shah revealed plans to enhance the KMC bus system as part of this urban renewal effort. The government is focused on modernizing public transport to make it more efficient and accessible for residents.

In addition to transport improvements, the Sindh Government is addressing pension issues faced by KMC employees. Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of resolving these issues to streamline municipal services and properly support city employees.

This coordinated effort between the Sindh Government and KMC represents a significant push to reclaim public spaces, improve infrastructure, and enhance public services. The authorities will do anything to restore Karachi’s urban landscape and ensure that the city operates more efficiently.

Plans for the Future

The operation to remove encroachments is only the beginning of Karachi’s urban renewal. The city’s infrastructure will get a major upgrade with significant investments in road repairs and drainage system improvements. The government’s focus on modernizing public transport will further enhance mobility for residents.

Overall, this operation is part of a larger vision to transform Karachi into a more accessible, efficient, and livable city. By removing encroachments, improving infrastructure, and addressing key issues like employee welfare, the Sindh Government and KMC aim to make lasting changes that benefit all residents.

Mayor Wahab and Chief Secretary Shah commit to ensuring the success of this initiative, and Karachi residents can expect more developments in the coming months.
