Qatar has strongly condemned Israel’s occupation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in East Jerusalem. The Qatari Foreign Ministry issued a statement denouncing the seizure, calling it a violation of international law.
Two days ago, Israel announced its plans to seize the land and build an illegal settlement on it. The Qatari government expressed outrage, stating that Israel’s actions are part of a larger effort to dismantle UNRWA, which Qatar believes is a deliberate attack on the United Nations itself.
Global Outcry Against Israel’s Actions
Qatar is not alone in its condemnation. The European Union (EU) also recently criticized Israel for targeting UNRWA, saying it is “gravely concerned” about Israel’s draft legislation aimed at banning the agency from operating within the country. The legislation, if passed, would severely limit UNRWA’s ability to provide aid in war-ravaged areas like Gaza.
Israel’s attacks on the UN agency have been deadly. So far, 226 UN employees have been killed by Israeli forces during its ongoing military campaigns. The latest offensive includes a raid on a village southwest of Nablus in the West Bank. Israeli forces stormed the village and carried out a large-scale search operation targeting vehicles and shops. Local media reported that soldiers used tear gas and burned Palestinian flags during the raid.
International Protests and Resistance
Protests against Israel’s actions are spreading globally. In Ireland, demonstrators blocked roads near Shannon Airport to protest the use of Irish airspace for U.S. and Israeli military aircraft carrying weapons to Gaza. Protesters expressed outrage over their country’s involvement, even indirectly, in the conflict.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes continue to pound Gaza. In one attack, Israeli forces targeted the town of Younin in Lebanon’s eastern Bekaa region. According to Al Jazeera’s Arabic correspondent, the assault caused significant damage, further escalating tensions in the region.
Innovative Solutions Amid Crisis in Gaza
Despite the violence, Palestinian engineers are developing innovative solutions to tackle the ongoing energy crisis in Gaza. One engineer has designed solar cookers that use mirrors to focus sunlight, offering a sustainable alternative to gas cylinders. These eco-friendly devices allow people to cook meals without relying on traditional fuel sources, which have been blocked from entering Gaza by Israeli forces.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to worsen. Gaza’s Civil Defence reported that five members of the Abu Dalal family were killed in an airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp. This brings the death toll from Israeli airstrikes to at least 36 in a single day.
Rockets Fired from Lebanon
Adding to the escalation, the Israeli military reported that 40 rockets were fired from Lebanon, some of which were intercepted, while others landed in open areas. Air raid sirens blared across Israel’s Upper Galilee region in response to the rocket fire.
As the conflict intensifies, global calls for an end to the violence grow louder. The international community continues to push for a ceasefire, but peace remains elusive in both Gaza and Lebanon.
