A major power breakdown occurred at the Dhabeji pumping station in Thatta, shutting down three pumps. A rupture in a 72-inch pipeline, identified as pipeline number 5, caused the disruption. This pipeline supplies water to Karachi, and the breakdown has stopped over 18 million gallons of water from reaching the city.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) reported that the rupture was due to back pressure of water. Repair work on the damaged pipeline is in progress, with an estimated completion time of 24 to 36 hours. During this period, Karachi will face significant water shortages.
Authorities are working quickly to repair the pipeline and restore the water supply. Teams have been dispatched to the site, and officials are closely monitoring the repair process. The KWSB has urged Karachi’s residents to conserve water until the situation is resolved.

This breakdown adds to the ongoing water issues faced by Karachi, where water shortages are common. As the repair work continues, the demand for water tankers in the city has increased. Many areas are already feeling the strain of reduced water access.
Officials are doing their best to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and prevent further damage to the system. However, the KWSB has warned that it may take time to fully restore water flow to all areas of Karachi once the repairs are finished.
In the meantime, authorities are providing updates on the progress of repairs and requesting the public’s patience as the situation is handled.
