Rawalpindi – Dengue cases in Rawalpindi are showing a downward trend as the number of daily positive cases has decreased. In the last three days, a total of 267 positive cases were reported, averaging 89 new cases per day.

The District Health Authority’s dengue data shows that positive cases for the last three consecutive days were 85, 87, and 95. This indicates a slight but consistent decline in the number of cases. Previously, from October 1 to October 12, the district was recording 110 new cases per day, which prompted the district administration to declare a ‘Dengue Emergency.’

An intensified anti-dengue campaign is launched after the emergency. This aims to target hotpots and enforce strict measures to control the spread of the virus.

Following the emergency, an intensified anti-dengue campaign was launched, targeting hotspots and enforcing strict measures to control the spread of the virus. The campaign has been credited with the decrease in daily cases.

Strict Measures Taken Against SOP Violators

As part of the crackdown on dengue SOP violations, the authorities adopted a zero-tolerance policy. Around Rs. 20 million in fines have been imposed, 1,670 buildings sealed, and 4,328 FIRs registered against violators. Additionally, actions were taken against negligent health officials, and several government buildings, including those of IESCO, ET&NC, Railways, and Agriculture departments, were sealed for failing to follow the prescribed SOPs.

Leadership and Collective Efforts

Dr. Asif Arbab Niazi, CEO of the District Health Authority, spoke to APP on Tuesday and attributed the decline in dengue cases to the collective efforts of the district administration, health officials, and citizens. He emphasized that the anti-dengue campaign was being carried out through a multi-pronged strategy involving both indoor and outdoor activities.

“We are doing our best to combat the dengue epidemic, following directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique, Khawaja Imran, and public representatives. Their support has been instrumental in this effort,” said Dr. Asif.

He also praised the hard work of the surveillance and monitoring teams and gave special recognition to Lady Health Visitors (LHVs), particularly those from Pothohar Town, for their dedicated efforts in remote areas.

Public Cooperation and Continued Vigilance

Dr. Asif acknowledged the positive response from the public, which has played a key role in the success of the ongoing campaign. He urged continued vigilance despite the recent decline in cases, noting that dengue fever remains a potential threat in the area.

It is important to mention that 6 people have succumbed to dengue in the district. According to hospital sources these cases were reported late.

The anti-dengue campaign will continue, with authorities working to further reduce the spread of the disease. The district administration remains committed to ensuring that dengue does not pose a greater risk in the future. Despite the positive trend, Dr. Asif reminded the public that dengue vectoring remains a concern and that sustained efforts are necessary to fully control the outbreak.
