Jahandad Khan, a 21-year-old all-rounder, made his international debut in the third and final T20I of Pakistan’s tour of Australia. With the series already lost, Pakistan made two changes, replacing captain Mohammad Rizwan with Haseebullah and handing Jahandad his maiden international cap.
Jahandad is a left-arm pace bowler and an explosive left-hand batter. Before his debut, he played 19 T20 matches, taking 18 wickets at an average of 29.50 and scoring 154 runs at an impressive strike rate of 187.80. His ability to clear boundaries with ease has drawn attention, making him a potential middle-order power hitter for Pakistan.
Highlight Performances in Domestic Cricket
Jahandad’s standout performance with the bat came during the 2024 Pakistan Super League while playing for Lahore Qalandars. Against Quetta Gladiators, he smashed an unbeaten 45 off 17 balls, striking at 264.70. His innings, laced with four sixes and three fours, showcased his brute power against spinners.
With the ball, Jahandad shone in the 2024 Champions One-Day Cup. Playing for Stallions, he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker, claiming 10 wickets in the tournament. In List-A cricket, he has 40 wickets from 23 innings at an average of 24.55, proving his value as a reliable bowler.
Jahandad’s first-class career also highlights his all-round potential. In six matches for Rawalpindi since October 2023, he has taken 29 wickets at 23.62, including a career-best 7-65. His bowling performances underline his adaptability across formats.
T20I Debut Against Australia
In his first international appearance, Jahandad struggled with the bat, managing only five runs off ten balls. Pakistan’s batting order collapsed from 61-1 to 117 all out, leaving little room for the debutant to shine. However, expectations remain high for his contributions with the ball in the second innings.
Jahandad’s consistent performances in domestic and developmental tournaments earned him a spot in the national squad. Notably, he was named Player of the Match for Pakistan Shaheens in a Top End T20 Series game against Melbourne Renegades Academy, where he picked up 3-19 in 3.3 overs, including 11 dot balls.
