Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has defended his wife, Bushra Bibi, after her comments allegedly implicating Saudi Arabia in his government’s ouster drew criticism. He stated that her words were “taken out of context” to stir unnecessary controversy.

Khan clarified through his official X handle on Friday that Bushra Bibi “didn’t mention Saudi Arabia at all.” He emphasized the strong, “brotherly” ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Bushra Bibi’s remarks, made in a rare video address, alleged foreign interference and accused former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa of conspiring to remove Khan from office. She also mentioned a 2018 incident in Madina, claiming General Bajwa received calls during Khan’s pilgrimage, leading to a smear campaign against him.

Khan Reiterates Saudi Arabia’s Support

Khan dismissed the backlash against his wife’s comments, stating Saudi Arabia has been a steadfast ally of Pakistan. He recalled Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s outreach after Khan survived an assassination attempt last November.

He also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role in the 2022 OIC foreign ministers’ summit in Islamabad. According to Khan, this demonstrated the Kingdom’s unwavering loyalty to Pakistan.

Government Condemnation of Remarks

Government officials criticized Bushra Bibi’s comments, labeling them a “suicide attack” on Pakistan-Saudi relations. However, Khan refuted this interpretation, insisting that the claims were fabricated to create division.

He reiterated that his wife has no political involvement. Her statement, he explained, echoed his stance ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest on November 24.

Khan urged supporters to view the protest as a defining moment for Pakistan. He described it as a choice between “submission” and “freedom.” Calling November 24 a day to “break free from slavery,” he framed the protest as essential for Pakistanis to reclaim their rights.

Allegations Against General Bajwa

The PTI chief doubled down on accusations against former army chief General Bajwa. He alleged Bajwa blocked investigations into the conspiracy to oust him, orchestrating his government’s downfall.

Khan concluded by urging the nation to stand against the erosion of the rule of law, human rights, and the constitution. He called for unity in what he described as a fight for justice and Pakistan’s sovereignty.
