PTI supporters reached Islamabad’s D-Chowk, sparking intense clashes with security forces. Tear gas shelling filled the area as authorities moved to block the demonstration. Containers and barricades were set up to restrict access to critical government buildings.

The protests follow a call by PTI founder Imran Khan, demanding his release and the reversal of constitutional amendments. Talks between the government and PTI failed to reach an agreement.

Violence Claims Lives of Security Personnel

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned an alleged attack by protesters that killed four security personnel. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the deaths of three Rangers and one Punjab police officer.

Government Stance and Army Deployment

PM Shehbaz Sharif labeled the clashes as “extremism under the guise of protest.” He directed officials to identify those responsible for the violence and ensure justice.

The premier said bloodshed for political purposes was unacceptable and warned against chaos. “This is not a peaceful protest but an attempt at anarchy,” he added.

Efforts to negotiate a venue for the protest failed as PTI leaders rejected a government proposal to shift the demonstration to Sangjani, a location outside the city.
