Cement prices in Pakistan’s northern cities dropped slightly during the week ending January 2. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the average retail price of a 50-kg cement bag in northern cities stood at Rs. 1,415, reflecting a 0.45% decline from the previous week’s price of Rs. 1,422.
The price decrease marks a positive shift for consumers. However, prices in southern cities remained stable. The average price per bag in the southern region stayed at Rs. 1,385, unchanged from the previous week.

Impact and Market Stability
The slight price drop in northern cities suggests possible market adjustments. Analysts believe steady supply and reduced demand may have contributed to the decline. In contrast, stable prices in southern cities indicate a consistent demand.
Cement prices directly impact construction costs. Any change influences ongoing projects, including housing developments and infrastructure projects. Builders and contractors welcomed the reduced prices, especially in regions like Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
While the cement market remains stable overall, future changes will depend on factors like supply chains, energy costs, and seasonal demand. The PBS continues to monitor weekly price trends to inform stakeholders.
