Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary for Information, Sheikh Waqas Akram, criticized the government for its inflexibility, which he claims has led to a breakdown in negotiations. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Akram accused the government of stalled talks and failing to take the party’s demands seriously.

“The talks have stalled due to the government’s stubbornness,” Akram said, adding that the PTI has consistently maintained its stance and submitted its demands in good faith. He emphasized that PTI founder Imran Khan extended opportunities for dialogue, even under what Akram described as “government repression.”

Demand for Access to Imran Khan

Akram reiterated PTI’s key demand: access to their chairman, Imran Khan. He stated that Khan has been denied contact with his legal team and supporters for over three and a half months. “Even lawyers are not allowed to meet him,” he said, describing the situation as a violation of basic rights.

Akram further accused the government of ignoring court orders. He pointed out that the judiciary had directed authorities to allow Khan to communicate with his children, but this directive has yet to be followed.

The PTI leader also highlighted Khan’s call for a judicial commission during the third round of talks with the government. “How can they address major demands when they can’t even arrange one meeting with our committee and Khan?” he questioned.

Criticism of Imprisonment Conditions

Akram condemned the conditions of Khan’s imprisonment, describing them as inhumane. “He has been placed in a dead cell meant for terrorists, with no access to TV, washrooms, or visitation rights,” he said, alleging that claims of adequate facilities were false.

Drawing comparisons, Akram criticized the preferential treatment given to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif during his imprisonment. “In Adiala Jail, Nawaz was asked about his preferences for lunch and dinner,” he remarked.

Mocking the government’s apprehensions about Khan’s release, Akram added, “Are you losing sleep worrying about what happens if our chairman is released?”

PTI continues to demand justice for its chairman and urges the government to engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve the ongoing political deadlock.
