A fresh-water crisis has gripped Karachi due to a major leaks in the water supply line on University Road near Nipa Chowrangi. The leak, caused by ongoing development work on the city’s busiest thoroughfare, has disrupted water services to Gulshan-e-Iqbal, media reports confirm.

Water Shortages Impact Residents

Residents in affected areas, including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, have been struggling to access water for daily use. The leak has intensified water shortages in an already critical situation. Clifton, Liaquatabad, and other neighborhoods are also experiencing severe water scarcity, adding to the crisis.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) earlier reported a deficit of 150 million gallons per day after the main 84-inch water line burst last week. Despite promises of swift repairs, the problem remains unresolved, leaving residents without water for several days.

Traffic Chaos Adds to Residents’ Woes

Standing water near the old Sabzi Mandi has worsened road conditions. Commuters traveling from the Civic Center to Kashmir Park face severe challenges as stagnant water blocks key routes.

The ongoing construction of a public transport project has further aggravated traffic congestion in the area. Vehicles are stuck in long queues, forcing drivers to navigate waterlogged roads and narrowed lanes.

Delayed Repairs Frustrate Citizens

Authorities initially promised to fix the main water line within 72 hours. However, the repairs stretched into a full week due to additional damage discovered in nearby sections of the line. Despite completing work on the 84-inch pipe, residents in Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Liaquatabad are still facing water shortages.

The leak on University Road, detected days ago, remains unfixed. This delay has not only disrupted water supply but also caused severe inconvenience for citizens who rely on the road for daily commutes.

Urgent Action Needed

Karachi’s residents demand immediate action to resolve the leak and restore normal water supply. The combination of water shortages and traffic disruptions is making life increasingly difficult for citizens.

Authorities need to act swiftly to repair the leak and address the standing water issue to provide relief to the affected areas.
