James Woods Gets Emotional on CNN Over Wildfire Loss

Actor James Woods has shared a heart-wrenching story about losing his Los Angeles home to the wildfires devastating Southern California. During an emotional interview with CNN’s Pamela Brown, Woods described evacuating with his wife, Sara Miller-Woods, and the challenges they faced during the chaos.

Woods Recalls Evacuation and Destruction

Woods revealed that the couple fled their newly renovated Palisades home with only “the clothes on our backs.” They had spent much of the pandemic living in a hotel while their home underwent renovations and returned just last month.

“Our beautiful little house,” Woods lamented. He described how they had begun enjoying the restored home, swimming daily and bonding with neighbors. “One day you’re swimming in the pool, and the next day it’s all gone,” he said, visibly emotional.

The actor also expressed concern for a 94-year-old neighbor with dementia. Woods contacted police to request a wellness check after noticing the man hadn’t evacuated. Authorities found him in his pantry, surrounded by fire. “He’s okay. They found him. He’s in the hospital, and he’s great,” Woods said.

Family Support Amid Tragedy

Woods shared a touching moment involving his 9-year-old niece. After learning about the destruction, she offered her piggy bank to help her uncle rebuild. “She came out with her little Yeti piggybank,” Woods said, fighting tears.

Despite his grief, Woods praised firefighters and emergency crews for their heroic efforts. CNN’s Pamela Brown reassured him, saying, “Strength is not measured by whether you hold in crying or not. Strength is what you are doing now in helping your neighbors.”

Wildfires Force Mass Evacuations

The Palisades Fire, which broke out Tuesday morning, has burned over 2,900 acres and forced approximately 30,000 residents to evacuate. California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency as the fires continue to spread through Los Angeles County.

Woods documented his evacuation on social media, posting photos from his home before the flames consumed it. “To all the wonderful people who’ve reached out to us, thank you for being so concerned. We were able to evacuate successfully,” Woods wrote.

He confirmed his home had been destroyed, adding, “There is no possession as priceless as friends and good neighbors during a tragedy. I can’t believe the blessings we enjoy, and I am humbly grateful.”

Woods Sparks Controversy on Social Media

Woods also caused a stir with his comments on social media, rejecting suggestions that the wildfires are linked to climate change. He called one user a “liberal idiot” and blamed the fires on poor fire management and state leadership.

“This fire is not from ‘climate change,’ you ignorant asshole,” Woods wrote. “It’s because liberal idiots like you elect liberal idiots like Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass.”

The actor has not appeared in a film since 2017, but his emotional story has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the devastating impact of the ongoing wildfires.
