KARACHI: Senator Faisal Vawda has predicted the conviction of former prime minister Imran Khan in the £190 million case. The case judgment is expected today. Vawda, a former cabinet member and once a close ally of Khan, made these remarks during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club.

Cabinet Decision to Allocate £190m Under Fire

Vawda stated that he had earlier warned Imran Khan about the cabinet’s decision regarding the allocation of £190 million received from a UK agency. He claimed the decision would bring legal trouble for the former premier. “A crime is supposed to be punished, and it will be punished. He [Imran Khan] was compelled to commit that crime,” Vawda remarked.

The senator expressed no sympathy for the former PM, suggesting that accountability should be enforced. He highlighted his discontent with the decision-making process during Khan’s government, indicating that critical advice was ignored.

Criticism of PTI-Government Talks

Vawda criticised the ongoing dialogue between PTI and the government, calling it a “game of hide-and-seek.” He accused PTI of adopting a hostile stance toward the government and later resorting to negotiations. While welcoming the talks, he urged PTI to engage with sincerity and avoid playing political games.

He further pointed out the inconsistency in PTI’s actions, alleging that the party had shifted its tone after facing political setbacks. Vawda noted that PTI’s aggressive posture had backfired, pushing them toward negotiations.

Warnings About Imran Khan’s Safety

The senator reiterated his claims that Imran Khan’s life was in danger. He alleged that people close to Khan posed the biggest threat to his safety. Vawda did not reveal names but insisted that this danger was real and imminent.

Additionally, Vawda advised PTI supporters not to rely on Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House. He argued that Pakistan’s political winds are not in PTI’s favour. Instead, he urged PTI members to focus on resolving issues within the country rather than depending on external factors.

Vawda’s remarks add to the growing tensions within PTI’s ranks and its evolving stance toward the government. As the court’s decision looms, the political implications of the £190 million case remain significant.
