The government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will hold the third round of negotiations today. National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will chair the meeting at the Parliament House in Islamabad. The session is set to begin at 11:30 am.

Sources from PTI confirmed the party would present its demands in written form during the meeting. These demands are based on instructions given by the party’s founder, Imran Khan, who remains incarcerated. The negotiations aim to address the ongoing political instability in the country.

Government Response

PTI has finalized its demands, focusing on key issues. These include the release of political prisoners and the formation of a judicial commission to probe the May 9 riots and November 26 protests. The party insists that the talks must reach a logical conclusion by January 31.

The government has criticized PTI’s conditional approach to the talks. Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah suggested extending the negotiation timeline to February 28. Sanaullah stated the government would consult its allies after reviewing PTI’s written demands. He added, “We need time to respond effectively.”

Concerns Over Progress

Doubts remain over the success of the negotiations. The PTI warned that the talks might collapse if a judicial commission is not formed after today’s session. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar expressed hope for positive results but highlighted the risks of failure.

The ruling coalition emphasized its willingness to negotiate sincerely. However, government sources questioned how meaningful progress could be made if PTI sticks to a conditional approach. Despite the skepticism, both sides recognize the importance of these talks in fostering political stability.

Today’s meeting follows two earlier sessions held on December 27, 2024, and January 2, 2025. The outcome of the third round will determine whether the negotiations can continue or face collapse.
