Karachi Awards 2025: KE Honors Welfare Initiatives

Karachi: In a significant development, the Karachi Awards 2025 jury convened to review this year’s submissions, marking an important step forward for the awards program. Now in its fourth year, this initiative recognizes and celebrates welfare services across Karachi and its surrounding areas. The meeting emphasized the transparency of the awards process while focusing on this year’s theme, “Let the Spirit of Service Shine Bright Forever.”

This year, the Karachi Awards 2025 received 166 exceptional entries, surpassing last year’s submissions and reflecting a growing commitment to social responsibility across various sectors. To ensure transparency and fairness, the entire awards process is being overseen by an independent audit firm, EY, which involves a detailed review of all nominated projects. The jury’s session in Karachi marked an important stage in this comprehensive evaluation. Later, a virtual session will be held to review the remaining entries to ensure inclusivity. This rigorous, multi-layered process underscores the Karachi Awards’ commitment to recognizing organizations contributing positively to society.

The jury comprises notable figures from various fields, including Javed Jabbar, Baela Raza Jamil, Ameena Saiyid, Jameel Yusuf, Ronak Lakhani, Mazhar Valjee, Sheikh Imran-ul-Haq, Shoaib Javed Hussain, Badaruddin Vellani, Alia Jaffar, Moeen Fudda, Abdul Rehman Ailana, Inam ur Rahman, Ayesha Tammy Haq, Mubashir Hasan, Sheheryar Umar, Shehzad Roy, Tara Uzra Dawood, Afia Salam, Zofeen Ibrahim, Sameera Raja, Sidra Iqbal, Maryam Aziz, Nida Athar, Muneeza Butt, Sadia Haroon, and Ayesha Aziz.

To ensure comprehensive evaluation, a second virtual session will be held on January 28, 2025, featuring esteemed individuals such as Amna Ijaz, Zarrar Khuhro, Shamsuddin Shaikh, Dr. Naveed Arshad, Khalid Malik, Sajid Aslam, Zohaib A. Khaaliq, Maliha Bangash, and Musharraf Hai. The jury members’ expertise spans diverse sectors, including education, health, social entrepreneurship, and environmental sustainability. Their combined experience highlights the awards’ diversity and commitment to recognizing institutions that positively impact society.

Participating organizations include FESF, NOWPDP, Bait-ul-Sukoon Cancer Hospital, Roshni Helpline, CPLC, Shahid Afridi Foundation, Kiran Foundation, Indus Resource Center, LRBT, Zafar & Atiya Foundation Charitable Trust, Panah Shelter Home, Karachi Vocational Training Center, Saylani Welfare Trust, SINA, HANDS, Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Bait-us-Salam Welfare Trust, SOS Village, and Special Olympics Pakistan.

Speaking about the jury session, Saad Amanullah Khan, Chairperson of the Karachi Awards Jury and member of KE’s Board of Directors, said:
“I’ve been associated with the Karachi Awards for three years, and it’s heartening to witness the dedication and passion these organizations bring to improving communities. With 14 categories, it’s truly inspiring to see the impactful work being done at the grassroots level. The Karachi Awards provide a platform for NGOs to showcase their efforts and win recognition through an independent review process. I’m grateful to the jury members and believe their contributions will help improve Karachi.”

KE’s Chief Distribution and Marketing Officer, Sadia Dada, added:
“The Karachi Awards reflect our commitment to supporting institutions that serve the public despite challenging circumstances. Last year, 43 projects were recognized, and I’m confident that this year we’ll celebrate even more organizations. This platform supports those working for Karachi’s welfare, and we’ll continue it with integrity and inclusivity.”

Since its inception in 2021, the Karachi Awards have distributed PKR 110 million in electricity rebates and recognized 108 organizations across 14 categories, including health, education, women’s empowerment, sustainability, and community development. These efforts have positively impacted millions of lives and promoted social welfare.
