Stranded American Woman in Karachi Persuaded to Return Home

The US consulate in Karachi has successfully arranged the return of Onijah Andrew Robinson, a 33-year-old American woman who made headlines after traveling to Pakistan to meet her 18-year-old online lover. Following a dramatic series of events, consulate officials convinced her to return to the United States after she was hospitalized for health concerns.

Medical Concerns and Intervention

Robinson was admitted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) with critically low haemoglobin levels. Doctors immediately administered three blood transfusions, stabilizing her condition and raising her haemoglobin count from 4 to 9. In addition to physical health issues, she was also being monitored for bipolar disorder and was receiving medical treatment.

Concerned about her well-being, US consulate officials met with the hospital’s medical board. After assessing her condition, they arranged for her return flight, ensuring that she would leave the hospital before February 11. Hospital officials confirmed that she would only be discharged once fully fit for travel.

A Romance Gone Wrong

Robinson’s journey to Karachi began in October 2024 when she arrived in Pakistan to meet Nidal Ahmed Memon, an 18-year-old she had connected with online. However, the relationship was built on deception. Reports revealed that Robinson had used a filter to appear as a blonde, white woman in her online interactions with Memon.

Despite this revelation, the two reportedly married through an online Nikah, an Islamic marriage contract. But upon Robinson’s arrival in Pakistan, she faced rejection from Memon’s mother, who disapproved of both the age gap and the fact that her son had been misled.

Memon’s family quickly distanced themselves from the situation. His mother removed him from their home, leaving Robinson stranded in an unfamiliar city.

Public Spectacle and Media Frenzy

After being abandoned, Robinson refused to leave. She camped outside Memon’s apartment complex, drawing attention from local residents and the media. Her emotional outbursts and demands for financial support quickly made her a viral sensation in Pakistan. Social media exploded with memes and videos, with many amused by the bizarre nature of the situation.

Humanitarian worker Ramzan Chhipa stepped in to offer assistance, but Robinson repeatedly rejected his help. Her erratic behavior, including a peculiar incident at a McDonald’s and an unsuccessful attempt to check into a psychiatric facility, only fueled the spectacle further.

With her visa expired, Robinson was granted a 15-day extension to resolve her situation. Meanwhile, Memon and his family remained in hiding to avoid further media attention. The US consulate’s involvement ultimately helped bring the situation under control, ensuring Robinson’s safe return to the United States.
