Share the latest news updates

Pakistan’s young opener Saim Ayub is making steady progress in his recovery from a right ankle fracture. He will continue his rehabilitation in England under medical supervision.

Medical tests, including MRI scans and X-rays, confirmed the severity of Saim’s injury. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ruled him out for 10 weeks, starting from 3 January. His return will depend on clearing all necessary fitness tests and medical evaluations.

Pakistan is scheduled to tour New Zealand from 16 March to 5 April for a five-match T20I and three-match ODI series. Saim’s participation remains uncertain. His selection will depend on his fitness status before the team announcement.

PCB’s Statement on Saim’s Recovery

A PCB spokesperson confirmed that Saim’s rehabilitation is on track. “He is responding well to treatment, and we will continue to monitor his progress closely,” the board stated. PCB’s medical team will assess him regularly to ensure he regains full fitness.

If Saim misses the New Zealand tour, he will shift his focus to making a comeback in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL). The PSL 2025 will begin on 8 April, right after the New Zealand series. His return to competitive cricket will be crucial for his career and Pakistan’s T20 setup.

Pakistan’s Opening Options

With Saim unavailable for now, Pakistan may look at alternatives for the New Zealand series. Possible replacements include Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique, or Sahibzada Farhan. The selectors will decide based on form and fitness closer to the squad announcement.

Saim will continue rehab in England under expert guidance. The PCB will provide updates on his fitness in the coming weeks. His potential return to action will be eagerly watched by fans and selectors alike.
