Pakistan has strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent remarks suggesting that Palestinians should establish a state in Saudi Arabia. The country described the comments as “irresponsible, provocative, and thoughtless.”
The condemnation came from Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, on Sunday. He responded to Netanyahu’s comments made during an interview on Channel 14, a pro-Netanyahu TV station.
Netanyahu’s remarks occurred when he jokingly replied to an interviewer, who mistakenly said “Saudi state” instead of “Palestinian state.” Netanyahu quickly corrected himself, but his initial comment raised concerns.
Pakistan’s Response
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FM Dar expressed Pakistan’s strong disapproval. He said, “The Israeli remark is irresponsible, provocative, and thoughtless. It is not only deeply offensive but also undermines and disregards the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and an independent state on their own historical and legitimate territory.”
Support for Saudi Arabia
Pakistan reiterated its unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia. FM Dar commended the Kingdom for its steadfast support of the Palestinian cause. The Foreign Office emphasized that any attempt to misrepresent Saudi Arabia’s stance on Palestine was “deeply regrettable.”
Pakistan’s Firm Stance on Palestine
Pakistan reaffirmed its firm stance on Palestine, reiterating the Palestinian people’s “inalienable right” to establish an independent and sovereign state. FM Dar stated that the state should be based on pre-1967 borders, with Al Quds Al Sharif as its capital.
The Foreign Office stressed that Pakistan rejects any proposal that seeks to displace or relocate Palestinians. Such proposals, it said, violate international law, UN resolutions, and the principles of justice and fairness.
Call for International Accountability
Pakistan urged the international community to condemn Netanyahu’s remarks and hold Israel accountable for undermining the peace process. Pakistan has vowed to continue working closely with Saudi Arabia and other international partners to advocate for the rights of Palestinians.
In conclusion, Pakistan strongly opposed Netanyahu’s comments and reaffirmed its commitment to a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian conflict. The country emphasized the need for continued solidarity and international action to uphold the rights of Palestinians.
