Apple is set to unveil the iPhone SE 2025, a significant upgrade to its budget-friendly iPhone lineup. The new model is expected to feature Face ID, a larger OLED display, a USB-C port, and Apple’s A18 chip, making it one of the most powerful SE models ever. While Apple is unlikely to hold a full launch event, the announcement could come as early as this week, with a release later this month.
No More Home Button
Apple is finally ditching the home button, marking a major design shift for the SE series. Since 2016, the SE models have retained the classic iPhone look with thick bezels, but that’s changing. The new SE will resemble the iPhone 14, featuring a notch for Face ID instead of the Dynamic Island seen in newer Pro models.
Leaked images and case manufacturer listings confirm this modernized design. The phone will have thinner bezels, giving it a more premium look. This update aligns with Apple’s trend of keeping the SE lineup slightly behind flagship models while still offering a solid user experience.

Larger Display, Bigger Body
The iPhone SE 2025 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, a big jump from the previous model’s 4.7-inch screen. This means Apple will no longer offer an iPhone smaller than the standard model.
If the new SE follows the iPhone 16’s dimensions, it could be taller and slightly heavier than its predecessor. The larger display and OLED technology will improve brightness, contrast, and battery efficiency compared to the LCD screens used in past SE models.
Single Rear Camera, New Action Button
Unlike flagship iPhones with multiple cameras, the iPhone SE 2025 will retain a single rear camera. Rumors suggest it could house a 48MP sensor, a major improvement over the 12MP camera in the previous model.
The front camera will reportedly be 12MP, ensuring better selfies and FaceTime quality. However, the biggest new physical feature is the Action button, replacing the mute switch. Users will be able to customize this button for various shortcuts, like launching the camera or activating Focus Mode.
USB-C Replaces Lightning
Apple is finally moving the SE series to USB-C, following the EU’s regulations. The previous Lightning-based SE models were discontinued in Europe, but this change ensures compliance while making charging more convenient for users.
A18 Chip and Apple’s First 5G Modem
Under the hood, the iPhone SE 2025 will be incredibly powerful, running on the A18 chip, the same processor as the iPhone 16 series. This guarantees faster performance and longer software support.
Apple is also debuting its first in-house 5G modem, replacing Qualcomm’s components. While it may not support mmWave 5G, it will still deliver reliable sub-6GHz connectivity.
Pricing and Release Date
However, Apple may offset this by starting with 128GB of storage instead of 64GB.
Interestingly, some leaks suggest Apple may rename the device iPhone 16E instead of SE, though most sources still expect the SE branding to continue.
