A powerful explosion shook Khuzdar’s Naal Bazaar, killing four people and injuring five. Police confirmed that an improvised explosive device (IED) was attached to a parked motorcycle and detonated remotely.
Explosion in a Busy Market
According to Naal police SHO Bahawal Khan Pindrani, the bomb was planted on a motorcycle beside a car. The explosion caused serious injuries, with one victim in critical condition. Rescue teams rushed the injured to Khuzdar Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment.
The Edhi Foundation, however, reported a higher death toll of five and several more wounded. The blast also caused significant damage to nearby vehicles and buildings.
Authorities Respond
Senior Superintendent of Police Javed Zehri stated that the explosion occurred near a college and that a bomb disposal squad was inspecting the site.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, vowing to eradicate terrorism. He assured that the best medical care would be provided to the injured.
Government spokesperson Shahid Rind also denounced the act, calling it a cowardly attempt to destabilize peace. He stressed that such attacks would not weaken public morale.
Rising Terrorism in Pakistan
This blast follows a recent terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Terrorists used explosives-laden vehicles in an attempt to breach the security zone. Security forces eliminated all 16 attackers, but the attack claimed the lives of five soldiers and 13 civilians.
Earlier, on January 26, another car bomb explosion targeted a passenger bus traveling from Khuzdar to Rawalpindi. That attack killed two people and injured seven.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. After the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire in 2022, violent incidents have increased across the country.
Alarming Statistics on Terror Attacks
A report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICCS) highlighted a rise in civilian casualties due to terrorism.
In February alone, Pakistan recorded 79 terrorist attacks, killing 55 civilians and 47 security personnel. Security forces responded with intensified counter-terror operations, eliminating 156 militants and arresting 66 suspects.
Balochistan remained the most volatile region, suffering 32 attacks that killed 56 people. Most of these attacks were claimed by groups like the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), the Balochistan Liberation Front, and the United Baloch Army.
Security Measures and the Way Forward
Authorities are on high alert, with security forces ramping up anti-terror operations. Officials emphasize the need for stronger intelligence-sharing and proactive counter-terrorism measures to curb the violence.
As terrorist threats continue to rise, the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and stability of the region. However, eliminating such attacks will require unified efforts from security forces and intelligence agencies.
