Tesla Halts Cybertruck Deliveries Over Trim Detachment Issue

Share the latest news updates

Tesla has put Cybertruck deliveries on hold due to a critical issue with its trim. Reports indicate that the cantrail trim, a decorative piece covering the roof ledge above the door, is detaching and potentially flying off. This has led the company to issue a “containment hold,” delaying deliveries until the problem is resolved.

Safety Concerns Delay Deliveries

According to sources, Tesla service representatives have informed customers about the delay but have not disclosed specific details. However, reports from Electrek suggest that the issue lies in how the cantrail trim is attached. Complaints to federal agencies indicate that Tesla may be using adhesive that is not holding as intended. If the trim detaches while driving, it could pose a safety hazard, making this a significant concern for both Tesla and its customers.

Previous Recalls and Quality Issues

This is not the first time the Cybertruck has faced trim-related problems. In the summer of 2024, Tesla recalled over 11,000 units due to “improperly adhered trunk bed trim sail appliques.” Since its launch in December 2023, the vehicle has been recalled seven times for various issues.

Despite these challenges, the Cybertruck has remained popular, with Tesla selling an estimated 40,000 units in 2024. However, quality concerns and production delays have caused frustration among buyers. Some Cybertrucks have even started appearing on used car lots, hinting at possible dissatisfaction among early owners.\

Production Delays and Growing Backlog

Tesla still has over 1 million Cybertruck reservations, but production setbacks continue to slow deliveries. In December, factory workers in Austin were reportedly told to stay home for three days, further impacting production. The latest containment hold could push back deliveries even further, frustrating those who have waited years for their trucks.

A Growing Image Problem

Beyond manufacturing issues, the Cybertruck has also become a target for graffiti and vandalism. Some speculate that this stems from Elon Musk’s controversial position as a special advisor to the Trump administration. Regardless of the reason, the vehicle’s high-profile nature has made it a lightning rod for attention—both positive and negative.

What’s Next for Cybertruck?

Tesla must now find a solution to the trim issue before resuming deliveries. If the problem requires significant rework, delays could extend for weeks or even months. With competition in the electric truck market heating up, Tesla cannot afford continued setbacks.

For now, Cybertruck customers will have to wait—and hope that when their trucks do arrive, they meet Tesla’s promises of durability and innovation.
